I agree, O'Hara is way overlooked -- those short stories are marvelously packed with detail and character, and even though he was an astute social satirist, they're not nearly as dated as you'd expect. One my favorites is "Girls in Their Summer Dresses" -- choice. I haven't read the Pal Joey stories, though I have seen the musical; maybe I should check them out.<BR/><BR/>But then I am a huge Fitzgerald fan, and I especially like his short stories. (Normally I'm not a short story fan, either.) Do you know his Pat Hobby stories? Very late in his career, and simply devastating.
